PHU QUOC ISLAND

Phu Quoc is the largest island in Vietnam, located in the Gulf of Thai Land, 45 km west of Ha Tien Town. The island is 50 km long and covers an area of 537 sq. km. It is governed as a district of Kien Giang Province, with a population of over 50 thousand. Phu Quoc Island has a large area of mountains and primeval forest which is rich in timber and wild animals.

Like a gem emerging from the emerald seawaters, Phu Quoc is endowed with many natural resources and tourist potential. Ringing the island are unspoiled beaches which are excellent for swimming and diving. The water around the island is transparent emerald, affording a fantastic view of the underwater marine life. Off its shore is a group of about 22 islands of all sizes, some of which are densely inhabited; the others are deserted.

Phu Quoc has been well known for its production of high-quality fish sauce (nuoc mam), black pepper, and the thriving fishing industry. The island has a domestic airport and two seaports which can accommodate international ships. Phu Quoc is accessible either by plane from Ho Chi Minh City or by boat from the towns of Rach Gia and Ha Tien.
