MY THO



My Tho, the capital of Tien Giang Province, is a  quiet city located on the left bank of the Tien River, one of the two main branches of the Mekong River, 79 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. The town is the entry gate to the Mekong Delta and set amidst evergreen fruit gardens and beautiful islands. The economy of the area is based on fishing and the cultivation of rice, longans, bananas, mangoes and citrus fruit.

 

My Tho's best known landmarks include the ancient pagoda of Vinh Trang and the Dong Tam Snake Farm. From My Tho, tourists can take a boat trip along the Tien River and through narrow canals in the shade of coconut and palm trees to explore the beauty of Tien Giang Province and the neighboring island province of Ben Tre, where you can visit lush orchards, taste the sweetness of tropical fruits, and experience life on river of the Mekong Delta’s community.

 

Thoi Son Island


Thoi Son Island, 45 minutes boat trip from My Tho City on the Mekong River Delta, is located in Tien Giang province.The path through the island is borderred with fruit trees bearing  plums, mangoes, and longans. Thoi Son has become a tourist resort welcoming hundreds of visitors. The tiled-roof houses surrounded by many generations of fruit-bearing trees, the cozy little restaurants in bonsai tree gardens make Thoi Son the ideal location for a short rest.


Visitors can experience the life of the Mekong Delta's community and will also enjoy Con Phung Island, Vinh Trang pagoda, and coconut sweets and jams.

 

Vinh Trang Pagoda

Built in 1849 in an area with many beautiful trees, this is the greatest pagoda of the Tien Giang province. The arcchitecture of the pagoda is a harmonious combination of Asian and European types of architecture, creating the splendid, but simple features of this Buddhist pagoda. Inside the pagoda are many precious staues made in wood, among which is the collection of 18 Bodhisattvas sculpted in 1907, representing the summit in sculpture in Mekong River Delta.
